Ontario Sport and Recreation Communities Fund Opens

Ontario’s Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Sport has announced deadlines for the Ontario Sport and Recreation Communities Fund. The grant represents one of the best opportunities for nonprofit organizations delivering sport and recreation in Ontario to receive additional funding from the government.

“The Ontario Sport and Recreation Communities Fund (OSRCF) was established to achieve a vision of getting and keeping Ontarians active in community sport, recreation and physical activity through the support of short-term projects that deliver high-quality and meaningful experiences to individuals at every phase of life. The OSRCF is targeted at populations whom lack equitable access to participate and/or have been historically less physically active.”

The grant opportunity includes two streams, depending on the scope and reach of the project: regional and local. Any project not impacting all four ministry regions is considered local – even if it takes place in more than one region.

All projects must address at least one of the Ministry’s three stated goals: increased participation, implementation of physical literacy programming, or capacity building.

Letters of intent for projects in the provincial stream are due December 17, 2014. Only selected organizations will be invited to submit complete proposals.

A letter of intent is not required for the local stream. Instead, a completed application is due February 2nd, 2015.

The local stream presents a great opportunity for sport clubs and leagues to optimize their programming and services with Ministry support. The Ministry strongly recommends partnerships, in which two or more organizations work together to deliver the best possible sport and recreation services.

All applicants must have audited (or board-approved) financial statements for the previous two-years. In addition, applicants must have a board-approved, and digitally available, risk management policy that addresses concussion protocol.
